Keiko was born in Japan, holds a degree in Fine Art from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. She has spent more than a decade developing her ceramic practice in both Japan and the Netherlands.
Her work is deeply influenced by her Japanese heritage and by a philosophy that looks beyond functionality—embracing imperfection, simplicity, and a harmonious relationship with nature. Her work is inspired by a lifelong fascination with nature—its beauty, complexity, and interconnectedness.
During her time at Sa Buttega, Keiko explored native plants, flowers, and vegetation of Southern Sardinia, with particular attention to aromatic herbs. These encounters with the native flora became the starting point for a series of ceramic works, capturing organic forms through the tactile qualities of the Icchin technique.
Moreover, Keiko was able to expand her knowledge of the Sardinian culture when her practice was connected to the traditional Sardinian “Pintadura” cake decorating technique, indeed, experiencing a true cross over and pollination of the two ancient cultures.
